Toanswer your question. Confirmation bias, my friend. There's no correlation between material choice and sculpting ability, the only reason Volks and Smartdoll work in vinyl and the other companies don't is because they're the only two with the funds to do so, resin being more costefficient for small runs.
Think of how many anime garage kits are resin cast. and Volks has even produced a couple of the DD heads in resin for limited releases as well (examples being SD Chii, and the very elusive Super Dollfie Dream which was only released at a couple events and is a strung resin DD body, you will only find info on it in Jpn sites). As for good looking other resin companies, I thought the Luts girls were actually kind of cute, but if you don't like any on that list maybe SQlabs? They do cast in resin, though they used to use a rather smooth one that some people mistake for hard vinyl so there is misinformation about that. and it's a spot on DD aesthetic, pic related.
>>6548027Danny is so weirdly good at the everyman otaku personality. I'm pretty sure that's the key to his success, considering literally his only involvement in the creation of Smartdoll is approving designs (based off his genericass concepts) and marketing. He doesn't sculpt or anything. The western otaku community and the dol/figure segment in particular was just ripe waiting for someone with baseline social skills and relatable guy persona to come along and fleece them.
