Look at some youtube statue collections, there are people who buy several of these every month. You don't think there's AT LEAST 200 manchildren out there who idolize Transformers enough to buy any incarnation of it? Of course they always sell out.
This is turn makes reselling not a problem. There are always going to be buyers because these things are always so limited. Most collectors are okay with a minor breakage too, as they are usually easy to fix, and getting the statue at all is difficult. The guy about the toenails was just being a fag.
Also just straight up, sometimes these statues are the best merch available for a character/series. pic related.
