Dragon back in the early days did use straight copies of italeri runners and later the when retooled still had italeri elements.
The Academy sherman kits of the late 90's and 2000's used all original tooling, and do build well out of the box.
I've built both the AFV club M10 and the Academy counterpart and between the two the Academy did have better detailing, specifically with the interior. The M12 was also a decent build. Compared to Tasca they are not nearly as advanced tooling wise but just like the Italeri post I wrote above are not shit.
