His desire to not soul crush everything split himself in two. No doubt it also tempered it to a low enough level to be survivable for others. If he was full-on conviction and showed up his mental state, it'd be obvious why. But he clearly wasn't motivated to do so when he just quit when he realized Aizen didn't really care and all his new family were being picked off. I'd have loved if he survived.

Only issue there is the eventual discontent at waiting and unsureness of who's next and how long it'll be to see who they want when it could be literally anyone next. It could be a world where you see base form Arrancar, but can't complete an Espada group with them because key members only have Resurrecion. A world where you would see various villains and the main cast, but be unable to complete a full Gotei 13 Captain's meeting because some just aren't made. You can't seriously think we'd ever get a Tosen or Kensei before we see multiple villains, support characters and even vice captains. Filling a full roster with this would be impossible and the frustration will likely breed impatience and hostility to the line. Or maybe not. Bleach fans are used to getting screwed. Bleach can't even fill out a Captain's meeting. Lisa and that goofy ass dude being promoted? Really?
