I don’t even think it’s laziness however so much as people want G1 accuracy to such maddening extremes. Piles of Optimus Primes have fake grills and windows, many G1 characters have parts of an alt mode not shared with the actual altmode, he’ll look at MP Dinobot, most of his altmode parts in robot mode don’t actually come from his beast mode. It’s always done because the market has shown that’s what people will pay for.
