sometimes (a lot of times?) all it takes for a movie to be "a success" is timing. if it bombed at the box office, it might have slowly gained a following later in reruns/netflix/whatever... a lot of movies which we think are popular actually did "bomb" at the theatre.
realistically Lego would have been "okay"... they already had a reputation as a standard-acceptable-gift to buy for any kid's birthday or Xmas gift. but for sure it was a huge boost for them
although the one thing for certain that would have happened (if the movie failed to make money) was that we would have not gotten the sequel, and probably not the spin-off Lego Batman or Ninjago movies, and it's reasonable to assume that instead of sets being released for those movies, we might have gotten a few other sets from a few other things (like random DC sets instead of Lego Batman movie sets)
