In such a scenario, a "conservative" coloration is just as good as a "wild" approach imo.But aren't theropods and dromaesaurids, the top predator at the time has excellent color vision? I don't mind crazy colors on the headresses, as it is shown to be driven by sexual selection more than self-defense. All I'm saying is that picking lizard color limits the choices and not allow for different headress pattern vs. the rest of the body.
