The original G2 comics featured the war between Autobots and Decepticons needing to be put on hold when an entirely unrelated faction who just called themselves Cybertronians showed up. The Cybertronians left Cybertron before the war even started and thought both Autobots and Decepticons were retarded throwbacks. The original plan for Tarantulus and the Tripredacus Council was that they descended from them, not Unicron, that was invented from fan misinterpretation of Megatron calling Tarantulus a "spawn of Unicron" (it was supposed to be an insult a la "son of a bitch", not a statement of origin)
There was also at least one comic run that had Cybertron united under Shockwave while Optimus and Megatron and all those 'bots were in stasis on Earth. When the latter group eventually made contact with Cybertron again, no one wanted them to start up the Great War again.
And lastly, the IDW run had the Great War end and Cybertronian refugees from across the Galaxy returning to Cybertron, who likewise had never wanted anything to do with Autobots or Decepticons. That was the run that gave us Chancellor Starscream, the factually best leader that Cybertron ever had.
