>>10112785Hulk / Kong conversion anon here. I started thinking tonight about the Balrog from Lord of the Rings that Neca did back in the day, and how I wish I had gotten one but it was just too damn big and I was just a teenager without a lot of money at the time. I'm thinking once I'm done with my current Kong and Godzilla projects, maybe the next big challenge for me should be to do a 12" Balrog figure conversion? Neca's was 24" tall with a 4' wingspan, and I think I would want to aim quite a bit lower, something that is about the height of Neca's 12" Godzilla.
Now here's the tricky part where I am hoping someone here can help. I have no idea where to start in terms of looking for a base figure to convery. I know I'm gonna need some 3D printed parts to make this concept work, but the body shape of the balrog is pretty distinct because he's got digitigrade legs and a very hunched posture. The closest thing I can think of is a werewolf, but I can't find any 12" werewolf figures, and besides that, it would probably be wise to start with something more scaly, or at least a smoother texture that'd be easier to sculpt more detail onto.
This project idea is fairly ridiculous and it might not even be possible. If I can turn a cheap Hulk figure into my ultimate Kong figure though, this would be a more than worthy challenge to follow it up with, if I can find the right toy to start with. At 12" tall he wouldn't be quite movie-accurate but he'd still tower over Gandalf well enough to sell the illusion. I'd love to have a balrog both as part of my 12" giant monster collection and for my Toybiz LOTR collection, and to satisfy my curiousity as to whether it can even be done.
