I don' t have kids but I am the godfather to a set of twins. I keep a box of toys for them to play with when they come over and they have learned not to take figure off of the shelf without asking. They started out running right for the Playmates TMNT shelves and grabbing for things but after four visits they learned to look and point since they weren't talking yet.
I don't have to supervise them anymore around the toy shelf and they have their toy box they know they can do whatever they want to with, even rough play outside with those toys. I see them once or twice a month and I taught them that, so I figure even though you can't trump nature entirely nurture does edge it out enough unless you have a sociopath.
