I came up with a workaround, which is a roboforce knife jammed inbetween the two halves of the block on the opposite side which locks it in place and makes the entire thing solid and stable.
Pic related, the knife is on the other side of the swing joint half. Underside shot to kind of show off the knife between the two block halves.
