The problem is that they're so sturdy people put too much confidence in them, overweighing it with heavy stuff like vinyl and a good solid bump can have it tilting sideways.
If you stuff it books or magazines and don't fill each square completely ontop, you'll probably be ok. Sticking cabinets ontop like that aren't a problem even if they is filled. The detolf will shatter first before weight becomes an issue from them being ontop.
