Try instead the shields from the Dragon Quest Legends Item Gallery, the pieces happen to be pretty much to scale with ML figures and feature actual handles and straps.
Pic related, I've also been messing with magnification mirrors to see if they make displaying figures look better. They're kind of funny because they pick up detail from weird angles of the room (from anything beyond the magnification focal range) and reflect it upside down and tiny.
