It's a poor compromise they had to make due to the powermaster gimmick. Skyshadow has an actual latch for the tank to plug in securely.

You can try dripping pledge/nail polish between the interfaces of the joint where the friction is, it's just hard to tighten those type of pinned joints.

Somewhat related is this Skyshadow I got the other day. It has the same hip design and they are tight, but when they are tight they are squeaky and that's annoying after a while. I wish clicky joints would come back. Clicky not squeaky...
