It's set by the same kind of AI that when you ask what the dimensions of a product are, it spits out some nonsense that is entirely untrue with a citation of some website that is talking about a totally different make/model. It has no idea what it's doing.
Camelx3 shows what happened: third party scalper(s) were allowed to put up Feral and priced her at $36.99 and so the AI got scared that it was losing Amazon potential profits by keeping the price "low" and so it jacked it up even higher to $40, then dropped it to match the third party scalper(s) eventually.
