Like the other anon said, most transformations in Gundam are very simplistic--the designers are fully aware that these robots will inevitably have to be made into complex model kits, so they don't go too complicated.
You should get into Transformers if you want a complex transformation. If you want to keep going on Gundam, avoid transforming ones, they usually have to make compromises to make the transformation work and/or are very simplistic. Just buy cool looking shit that doesn't transform and you'll be fine.
