As for actually kitbashing stuff, a lot of it is really just throwing stuff together and seeing what sticks, supplemented by specific lessons gleaned from studying other customs. Koto kits are very easy to work with since 3mm pegs are damn near universal throughout their toy lines and bits of leftover sprue can be cut off to fashion pegs to attach parts in new places, like how I've repurposed architect's thigh armor into shoulder pads here
