I started visiting this board in '08. I had just begun buying toys again and the threads on here were like a shop display with all the different kinds of exotic toys available. It was pretty exciting. Often times I'd find interesting toys that came up for pre-order or were on sale, and I'd order them and watch the associated movie/series. It was just a lot of fun.
I haven't been checking /toy/ that much lately because there's just not as many interesting threads, and I just don't care about toys as much anymore.
I don't buy many toys anymore because they're just way more expensive (cue your "figma used to be 2500 yen" post here) and there's not as big a selection. After going on all those shopping sprees back then I realized I don't have infinite space, and that I bought a lot of stupid flavour of the month stuff because it was popular (here). For example: I enjoyed the BRS OVA so I bought the BRS Nendoroid (it was like 10 bucks or something at one point) but is that really an item I wanted or needed? And did I love it that much that I needed to buy all the BRS figma too? I don't want my apartment and my storage unit filled to the brim with plastic crap and boxes.
Attached is a picture I took in 2011 of one of the Strike Witches figma. Somehow I got it early, and was able to show the paint transfer issues it had to /toy/. Maybe someone remembers it.
