A pig sorcerer isn't a terrible option for a fantasy story just because your hero is black. It was right for Eason to make the villain something more interesting than another human, and while "pig" had had unfortunate implications for a couple decades, a bunch of cool fantasy concepts were already taken. Skull face? Done at least twice. Mummy? Taken. Snake Man? Would have worked at the time but not stand out now.
