The reason snap-fit kits stay together after they are snapped together is because the holes are slightly smaller than the pegs and their (somewhat) elastic deformation is what allows the pegs to go in but not come out. That deformation creates stress (typically visible as whitish discoloration).
Naphta-based chemicals make stressed areas brittle after very little exposure so they crack (see picture in
>>5290770). This is important when someone washes or paints snapped together kit with enamels because the kit can literally crumble in their hands.
Plastic that isn't deformed/stressed can still become brittle but that would take a lot more exposure to naphta, and it won't crack unless stressed.
