That way people who have the old ones will have an incentive to buy the new ones. But, people who actually buy Amiibos for the game won't feel ripped off that they have to buy an entire new set, they can just stick with their old ones
New sculpts and old chips will make everyone happy.
Of course there's always the chance they don't do any Amiibos at all.
