I saw one person online using thick textured paper and that seemed pretty cool, there are also plenty of guides using aluminum foil, but that's for larger scale dioramas like 1/700 or 1/350 so I fear it will look out of scale for this one. Aluminium foil also seems like it would be fragile even if it might be possible to make the crests really small..
