They have long since not only changed that stance but completely erased stuff from their online archives that cover these sorts of things. Hell they even removed an article talking about making cool lightup Balrog from their LotR line by making a mold of the parts and casting in clear resin. Even something as involved as that that requires buying the kit was scrubbed by current day GW. If they could outright ban customizing they probably would.
