In the NA show I think it was established that Skeletor comandeered it from the space mutants or something, but the toy itself just has so much more to say on that subject matter. It's like skeletor wasnt content with being darth vader anymore and went ahead to become brainiac. Its gorgeous, and easily manages to combine elements from classic MOTU with NA's more scifi heavy premise.
