>>8387408I'm pretty sure that Medicom themselves set up the license to only do comic runs.
I know some of you guys are casual as fuck, because you guys don't seem to understand that fans want characters from specific runs.
So a company who makes toys based on a specific series gets the name recognition from that best selling comic AND the popular artist.
>>8387371Jim Lee is a busy man being the publisher for DC Comics and is already providing art for various projects.
Generally to get toys based on an artist's work, they hire the artist to basically be the designer for the toy. H sketches out the character in various angles like you see in model sheets for shows and then the toy sculptor goes to work based on that. Through various stages, they get t he artist to look at the work they've completed and make any changes.
DCC had been doing it this way with their toy series and because they were in-house, they basically going down the hall to show Jim Lee their work for feedback
For a third party company, that becomes harder to do and requires a lot of scheduling. In the case of Japanese companies, you have to get an intermediary to help with translating. This maybe why their Gwenpool was straight out of her comic series, unlike Spiderman and hte XMen, since Gurihurijjhir are from Japan.
ANYWAY, since stuff like Hush, Dark Knight Returns, and other runs are popular, there are collected works that exist already showing close ups of details and other designs that were passed inbetween the writers, artists, inkers, and editors. So it makes it easier for a toy company if they choose something like that to base their toys on.
