Technically, the 3 toed feet was Classics doing it wrong. So Origins just did it wrong in a different way
Vintage didn't have swappable feet because the legs were solid pieces and Snake Trooper was supposed to have King Hiss legs. There has never been a proper Snake Trooper the way he was intended

What we know is that the Lost '88 concept art showed them fighting Strobo, who was treated as a modern day character in a MotU Magazine comic before cancelation.
There was also a bunch of 80s lore starting with Filmation She-Ra where Hordak led Snake Men.
