Rebooting the story was a good idea but they failed to add any intrigue to the setting this time around. The island of Okoto wasn't a mysterious, intriguing, occasionally ominous location, it was just a stage where events happened. A mere backdrop. The Protectors weren't fleshed out characters, just vessels to get the Toa started on their quests. Even the mask powers are sterilized, neutered. Generic. Six masks of elemental powers. Six masks of unity. Six powerless protector masks. Everything about G2 was designed around templates with no room for creativity, little reason to favor one character over another. Just look at the box comics, most of which are LITERALLY recolors with just the Toa swapped out for every Toa, Protector, and Creature set.
Bring creativity back to Bionicle.
