Dug up that container of "plating powder" that I have and applied it to a spoon. Based it with a high temperature black ceramic paint because it's what I had on hand. Dried flat and I coated half of it with a gloss. The smoother the gloss, the better the reflection, naturally. As I mentioned, it comes out a little dark but has a very nice finish, provided the gloss is smooth. There's a different brand floating around out there that gives a lighter, more "silver/white color" that would better fit chrome. Not sure how well this stuff would work over a gloss silver but I guess I can repaint half the spoon and find out..
