As a Yugioh player, Konami is just greedy and sometimes stupid. But I don't think they've ever been as malicious as WotC has been to its fans. Also Konami has softened up a little bit in the past year or two (probably because they are getting competition from other card games taking their money like One Piece and Pokemon).
