>>7233481I don't mean to sound condescending, but... yeah? That's what brands are all about. Is the Saks Cinderella made with $400 worth of materials? Nope, it's made with the same as the LE dolls that used to sell for $99. But it's sold through Saks, it's a Saks exclusive, so they charge $400. Is an Yves Saint Laurent Barbie made with $150 worth of materials? Nope, but it's a YSL collaboration, and you're paying for that collaboration and the branding. Same goes for a majority of toys and collectibles, especially if it's associated with a specific brand. Same goes with clothing, jewelry, etc, from brands. Most of it is not made with material and labor worth the high-end prices, you're paying for a name. The doll collectors that go after the YSL collab will be people who enjoy the YSL brand and doll collectors who go after the more expensive fashion collaboration dolls in general.
