Anyway, most of the hate from Star Wars back then and now comes from the hardcore and nerds. So you can definitely compare the nerds reactions from back then and now, and the difference is a giant gulf. Even with RLM's revival and explosion of hating on TPM in the 00s, the hate between the prequels and sequels is a gigantic swirling gulf that leads to a dark abyss.
Almost nothing is liked about the sequels, whereas nerds back then and now still look fondly at various aspects of the prequels.
