The fireworks are little color balls that shoot a ton of sparks for a few seconds. Yes, I shoot it directly at the figures, and yes, the shield has burn marcs. Pic related is the process. I shoot it with the “burst” option on the iphone, then just choose the best pic.

I don’t know what sparklers are, but in pic related you can see the process. The first second there was a billion sparks, then less and less, ao I just took about 30 pics in burst mode (iphone 6) and just choose the best looking one.

The fireworks I used are in the last pic. I got them on a flea market, but don’t know the name.
