Yep, it's a paint difference, along with different lighting.

People don't understand cameras and internet photos, and people become surprised when their toy arrives and doesn't look like professionally shot promos.
The alt head is shit though.

After comparing the two sets of images, it looks like they used a filter on the first set, which is why the details don't show up. Only the harder colors stand out more, like they're burned in, and the light ones don't, which is why so much detail was washed out.

That or a shitty camera was used on the first set.
