You sometimes have people in Newbieland who talk about their MHs and are all confused when people tell 'em they are in fact not on-topic.
Having rules that are sometimes enforced and sometimes not does indeed either lead to a slippery slope or endless discussions.
And I can tell you that as soon as you allow ABS dolls you WILL have people complain that doll so and so needs to be allowed now too.
I am glad DoA is so strict, there are enough forums who allow pretty much all dolls, I am glad I have one where I can only see BJDs.
However, the rules (and especially the criteria) are discussed frequently.
Like you said, the European dolls were off-topic once.
Doesn't mean that this will stay like that for animal/pet/creatures dolls forever too.
And I do agree that in case of like the DC/DZ companions some of the off-topic reasons are silly.
