You can't see it at all from the main angle, and from the side it plays like a joke. The bounty hunter chick is raised up by a plate to make it look like she's tracking in snow, but it really helps the character stand out in the scene. You can also make boots out of 1x1 plates for
astronauts and stuff. Plates look particularly good with dual-molded legs. It really depends on if you're making dioramas or playing in-hand. There's a lot more options when you start messing around with posing and perspective.
