As opposed to the current trend of dressing in random clashing colors & styles. Dressing in such a way hides the intrinsic body form of the wearer because the eyes start to glaze over from viewing such a chaotic, busy mess. But if you're corpulent and/or have no clue how to dress for your body type, then I guess dressing like you survived a tornado strike on a thrift shop is an easy fashion statement choice because "Don't judge me for be unique." Also, if you ever asked a young child to dress themselves with no help from an adult, they usually come out dressed randomly like this. While it's a cute thing for kids to do, it's not so cute when adults do it. I suspect it's a symptom of the infantilization of our culture en masse brought on by the normalizing of geek culture and heavy focus of nostalgia in the mainstream media outlets. I could go on at length about this, but this is not the place to do it. Just realize that the word "adulting" is a common verb today and not say, 10~20 years ago.
