Before that Superman was pretty damn popular until 4, which did mediorcely in the theaters thanks to bad word of mouth and reviews, but was this really the bubble bursting on superheroes? Not really, because 2 years later Batman came out, but Superman was considered dried out and lame for decades. ...maybe still is, thanks to his old media.
After the faggoty Batman And Robin movie, marvel movies became popular with Blade and XMen. And there were a shitload of other comic book movies that came about before the MCU existed like Hulk, Punisher, The Losers, V for Vendetta, Ghost World, Hellboy, Stardust, Catwoman, Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and constantine... plus the Nolan Batmans.
