long answer the groundcrew handled the painting for the plane most of the time with input from the pilot so it's up to them and other factors in the end. time constraints and availability of paint would be the main factor for if and how any part of the plane would be painted. I would imagine a crew with time on thier side would have the time to mask off the gun to avoid painting it or if they need a quick repair/replace of the nose cone just paint it and if paint gets on the gun oh well it will wear off eventually.
