The old Figuarts WERE legitimately leaps and bounds over them, so of course we were amazed. It was the best we'd ever gotten at the time. And honestly, if you look back at them, they're still nice figures--I mean, obviously the proportions are way out of whack and the colors are wrong at times, but the sculpts are crisp and detailed, and the paintjobs are very clean and well done for the most part. I mean, look at this pic. This is the very first SHF mold, and it's still a pretty phenomenal toy. Just because we can do better now doesn't automatically make the old ones shit.
I'm not QUITE sure we'll ever see that kind of leap forward again, since SS figures are preeeetty close to screen-accurate, but who knows? Screencap this post, maybe some years down the road we'll be wondering how we ever settled for the SHFSS figures.
