The new release doesn't feel like he'd have a problem with chipping, and actually looks like the premium #300 figure he should've looked like to begin with. If anything, I'd worry about the gold gradually fading; thighs on mine look a bit silvery in compared to the rest of the figure.
I don't know if it's my Figma specifically, but I remember seeing somebody else's Gilgamesh having the same slightly faded thighs (but everything else looks fine). It's too early to know how Gilgamesh will survive over time, but I would recommend buying him as long as it's the newer version.
