Lewin Optimus was under $350 shipped for a figure over 2 feet tall, and probably more complex. This figure is about twice the size, I could see it capping at $800 tops back then.
My theory is a lot of 3P were planning their products around costs before Covid and due to long production times, it blew up in their faces with the post-Covid costs.
