Usually I'd use arch bricks to make a ring, then have the turret clamp a couple of points around the edge, which makes for an almost empty basket.
Here, the width is basically fig-scale, but it's right in the middle of the arch sizes that produce an actual circle (1x6 half-arch and 1x5 quarter-arch, 1x8 half-arch doesn't), and the sloping on the upper hull takes some internal space that spills into the hull below the turret ring, so the only way to put a turntable in is dead center, which is where the commander+loader need to go.
