In honor of MLK's birthday tomorrow and upcoming black history month in Feb, here are my pics for the best black characters who deserve a spot in Origins. This list isn't ranked.
Starting at the top and going clockwise:
>Dekker
Representing 200x, Dekker needs to be a figure because of his close connections to Eternian royalty and history. While serving as King Miro's man-at-arms, Dekker trained Duncan and King Randor in combat. You can't get much closer to the elites of Eternia then that! I didn't actually like a lot of the new lore the 200x brought to the table, but for some reason this guy connected with me. He was competent, excelled at his military career and is now retired and living on an island (where he fights with Clawful over the turf.) World building done right.
>Plasmar
Mattel has already started dipping into the lost 88 wave. A lot of Plasmar's parts are already made, the biggest hurdle would be his hand blasters. But if Mattel is making Rio then it makes sense to use them for Plamar and get closer to finishing off the unproduced figures. He brings that flashy, sci fi aesthetic that this wave would need. I don't know anything about his background, but he looks like the ideal of a comic book superhero, on Eternia. Maybe it's the cape and lasers.
>Netossa
Chuds behave! Representation matters and I did want to find a lady to bring into the roster and it came down to her vs race swapped Andra. Netossa is a good choice because she was a late line PoP figure who could use a little more exposure. I know Mattel knows how to make beautiful dolls and they will do justice to this dark chocolate princess.
>Melaktha
from the Filmation cartoon, Melaktha was a semi-regular character who was most likely found doing archeological exploration with Prince Adam and Duncan. He is the apotheosis of the black nerd stereotype. This would be a really basic figure, so give him some good accessories. Pack him in with the Cliff Climber to really sell that exploration feel.
