I use Shapeways for my projects and mostly print in their nylon and acrylic (‘versatile plastic’ and ‘detailed plastic’ respectively on the site). I’m starting to get the hang of printing nylon joints that have decent friction with the right flex and recently began integrating nylon and acrylic into an articulated figure.
But despite the progress the quality still is inferior to professionally done figures that use resin or injection-plastic.
Also, to the anon asking about metal molds, depending on the plastic and it’s dimensions, you can make your own molds from industrial strength epoxy for small production runs.
