I had a girlfriend break up with me, giving me a laundry list of reason why. One of the was my hobbies. I sold a bunch of toys to try to keep her. Turns out my 'hobbies' that she didn't like were my gaming group, my modeling group, and my fencing group. Basically she wasn't cool when I was out with other people, but if I sat at home alone and played with toys, that was OK.
I have no shame about my interests and hobbies. I've been told that I'm actually aggressive in my interests; I want to tell people about what I like and have responded angrily to criticism, which has often shocked people that expect a toy collector to be meek and low self-esteem. I've had girls walk into my apartment and immediately walk out, and I happily hold the door open for them because I don't have time that are that shallow and judgmental.
My collecting recently has kinda paused, mostly because the lines I'm interested in have mostly ended. I mainly like Japanese mecha. HCM Pro, EMSiA, In Action Offshoot, and GFF has all ended and RD is moving to the ANIME line, which I'm not interested in.
At the moment I'm more looking to expand my video game collection. I collect Nintendo handhelds and have a list of the games I want in my 'perfect' collection.
