I don't think he needs 2 blast effects, they could have given him his toy gun on top of the one from the animation. They're already taking liberties with the fur (which oddly wasn't a factor for the G1 shows and additional details) so why not go beyond the animation model even further with additional accessories if they don't usually have all that much.
