I just got some news today, and I'm slightly heartbroken. It's left me wondering what I should do with all the live action Beauty & the Beast dolls I bought last month.
A few days ago I found out that the actor playing live action Gaston is gay. At first I thought the anon was trolling me, and I defended Luke Evans. I was left a little shaken so I googled "Luke Evans" to find out that the anon was not trolling. I found images of him at the beach in a speedo with another gay man.
I picked up four live action Belle/Gaston sets. One for me, and three other sets for my three nieces. I also perordered about seven tickets for the hole family to see the film, and I was going to give them the dolls as a surprise after the movie. Their mothers are hardcore Baptist Christians so I was hoping that they wouldn't catch wind that the actor was gay. Everything was perfect until the new news I read today.
Apparently Disney released a statement saying that live action Beauty & the Beast would feature their first ever gay character. They made Gastons sidekick LeFou gay, and they said in the statement that there will be an openly gay scene in the film. I don't even know what an openly gay scene even means??
I definitely can't take my aunt, nieces, or mother to see the film now. I'm going to have to cancel at least five of the movie tickets.
I don't know what to do about the dolls though. Should I return all the live action dolls I bought including my set or just the ones I was going to give out as gifts ? This sucks! This ruins everything! Why did Disney have to pick this film to bring a characters out of the closet.
