Why are you so upset about his view on this matter and wasting so much time on something so inconsequential? You clearly don't want to be bothered by hearing him out. Don't like his view? Go back to sticking your head up your ass.
I'll just add on to his view that there's really no reason for them to have null spaces on a figure this big, especially when there's a bazillion figures out there that have proven aesthetic knees.
No need to reinvent the wheel, because it usually ends up looking horrible.
