They facilitate their most basic function (holding the accessories), but they get outclassed by older hands available in the line.
To reiterate, I gave my BT marine some spare hands from my chaos Marines, and they made swapping accessories SO much easier! I just finished painting up another spare set for my IF, and I already know I'm going to enjoy playing with it so much more.
I was planning on getting the IF heavy bolter gravis marine, but I'm deciding not to now because of the hands. I was also considering a GK, and was about to abort as well, but I have a spare grip hand from my chaos terminator, so I could just paint that one to match the GK, and presto, good hand.
Fingers crossed sisters and onwards have better hands.
