If they are releasing some generic schoolgirl that is more likely to be in neutral poses or non-action poses they aren't going to bother with this new joint. The experimentation is to increase the value on releases that benefit from it.
IMO in action poses the Heroine X looks significantly better with this new joint vs a traditional figma knee. However, in the neutral standing poses it's undeniable the old joint would be vastly superior. To get more specific:
The new joint:
-doesn't require thigh meat to be shaved to get full range, looks better from side/back
-not offset to allow range of motion, more accurate leg anatomy
-gets rid of weird gap/sculpt break that happens in action poses without full bend (see pic posted)
The old joint:
-looks amazing in neutral poses and fully bent knee poses, more seamless look (like the pic you posted)
